River of The Damned

My semester 2 project for Fife college. This is the most up to date project i have. (2024)

Story 

Narrative 

The 2 men sailing down the river are part of the Vermen 11th Infantry Division, sailing away in desertion down a lonely river on a Dark Ill Omened night. They, abandoning their post in fear of dying on the front lines of a conflict they know very little about seeking life beyond the Engine Cities they grew up in. They seek to explore the world and they sail down this river to wait for morning, to wait for their hope. But morning never comes. 

And the game takes place during their journey, you play as their struggle to fight and as you wait for morning, and the higher the score the closer you would have gotten to the endless goal. 

The great war, a conflict with deliberately little detail as would be expected of those in the front lines, as they are not told where the next battle, the next war will come. As they are given arms and sent to the front lines. 

Within the game the players will come across sailing down the river several things, among them, strangely in a place of misfortune and violence, Rations. These rations have 2 types: Soft, which can be anything from mystery meat, to cheese, but always these rations as their name implies are soft. The other type is Hard Rations, this would include things like Hardtack, a hard bread like substance with a long shelf life. 

Characters

Oarex the Oarman 

Born in the underground of an engine city in a gas sector, growing up quickly as the Vermen do he began working on the TIS 27 Gas production. He quickly became sick due to exposure and was hospitalized for several years after a couple months of employment. Shortly after recovering from his gas induced illness he was drafted and sent to a war camp to be trained, he began his march toward the grimness of war. 

However, an opportunity granted to him by Marex, a fellow soldier in his division, told him of a chance to escape. A chance to desert their post and flee on a dark night on The River of the Damned

Marex the Gunman 

Growing up in a minor household Marex lived a life of low luxury. With accommodation for each member of the family, something otherwise uncommon amongst the Vermen. He joined the Infantry to show his mettle, to seek adventure. But the grimness of warfare soon took its toll. In the first battle he was in, he remembers but a red madness of gunfire, screams and violence. And during this red haze, he lost an arm. 

At the Garrison when the Vermen high command told them to hold for reinforcements he desperately tried to get a boat and escape. And with the little money he had, buying a boat he on a dark night with the help of Oarex, a sickly Vermen that was at least skilled enough at rowing to be useful as he could not with 1 arm and attempted to flee.
